Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs graded 9-4 or A*-C including Maths or English at grade C/4 or above.


You will study subjects within a range of digital environments and will have the opportunity to explore a range of platforms and use your creativity to design and develop your own ideas. The focus of the course is to provide you with the skills to set you on a path to working in the Digital Industries as a web based application or games designer. The units studied will reflect a growing interest in games design and web application creation. You will study computer games design, 2D computer games, mobile technologies as well as other interactive and web based technologies.

This course is ideally suited to non programmers. Although you will be using front end coding languages such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript, that affect the visual design, layout and functionality, you will not be using full on programming languages.

What will I study?

Web applications and mobile gaming are two of the fastest growing creative industries worldwide. We have the course to start you on the first steps to your career as a web application or games designer. On our full-time Level 3 App, Web and Games Design course, you will learn about the key elements of games design, application design, mobile technologies and gain insight into the industry you want to be part of.

You will begin your first year of study on the UAL Level 3 Diploma and then once successfully completed you will progress to your second year on the Level 3 Extended Diploma, which is equivalent to three A Levels.

This is a practical, work-related course and you will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. As well as learning about the employment area you have chosen, you will develop the skills you need to start your career. You will learn how to produce game concepts and stories, associated digital artwork and develop games in 2D. You will study User Experience and discover how understanding aspects of the user journey will help you produce games and applications that will engage the user and enhance their enjoyment.

You will be able to create characters for games, sounds and effects for your user interfaces and learn how to promote your own work and understand the underlying need for narrative and storytelling. You will also develop digital design skills using a host of creative software packages to create a range of interactive and digital outcomes.

How will I be assessed?

Students will be assessed by a series of coursework assignments, culminating in their choice of a final creative production project.

You will be assessed through assignments that are structured to explore different methods of web based application and games production. Assessment is ongoing in class and via submissions.

What qualification will I achieve?

UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology (App, Web & Games Design) after 2 years.

This is equivalent to 3 A Levels and carries the same UCAS points.

What can I do after completing this course?

Students could progress to Higher Education to develop further skills for a career path as a: Games Designer, Web Designer, App Designer, Concept Artist, UI Artist, UX Designer, Texture Artist, VFX Artist
